Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
303 PM PST Wed Jan 14 2026
.KEY MESSAGES...
* Above-normal temperatures, sunny skies, and generally light
winds expected across the forecast area into next week. The
exception is along the Colorado River Valley where gusty north
winds will increase wave heights each afternoon.
&&
.DISCUSSION...Today through Tuesday.
The region will remain sandwiched between a ridge of high pressure
to our west and a trough of low pressure to our east heading into
the weekend, resulting in a tight pressure gradient along the
Colorado River Valley. As a result, gusty north winds with gust
speeds peaking between 25 and 35 mph will continue each afternoon
through Saturday. These wind speeds will result in increased wave
heights, particularly Lake Mohave, where heights will peak
between 2 and 3 feet. Late-weekend into early next week, the ridge
will push eastward, easing pressure gradients over the region and
relaxing northerly wind gusts along the Colorado River Valley.
Otherwise, today will be the warmest day of the forecast period,
with afternoon high temperatures 10-15 degrees above seasonal
normals. Temperatures will gradually decrease through the
remainder of the forecast period, but will remain above-normal
with mostly sunny skies as the region remains situated beneath
stable high pressure.
&&
.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Breezy
northeast winds continue this afternoon. Light and diurnal winds
with clearing skies expected for the remainder of the TAF period.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona and
southeastern California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Breezy
northeasterly winds continue this afternoon at Las Vegas Valley TAF
sites, with speeds generally between 8 and 10 kts. Light and diurnal
winds at KBIH and KDAG. Gusty north winds at KIFP and KEED reduce in
speed slightly overnight, but return Thursday afternoon with gust
speeds between 25 and 35 kts. Clear skies through the TAF period.
&&
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
